Getting a fence for your property is a purchase that comes with many advantages. It marks the boundary of your property, adds to privacy, and stops children and pets from running away from your garden. One of the reasons to get a fence can also be to improve safety. To make your fence a form of safety equipment, it needs to be able to keep undesirable things outside of it, while keeping the things you want on your property inside. To make sure you get the safest security fence for your particular property, the first thing you need to decide is what material to use.

Wood fencing

Wood is a very common material for all types of fences. It has a classic, rustic look to it, but it's also highly adaptable and can be made to fit many different designs. Investing in a wooden fence that is high and thick will help keep intruders out, as it will be hard to climb. The downsides of a wooden fence are that it's an easily penetrated material for intruders that are really committed to entering your property and that it doesn't make the best fire barrier. If you live in an area prone to bush fires, a wooden fence isn't the greatest option.

Aluminium fencing

Aluminium is another common material for fencing. It's a lightweight material that isn't affected by the weather, as it doesn't rust. Aluminium is therefore perfect for humid conditions or for areas that tend to get more rain. When choosing aluminium fencing as a security fence for your property, you need to be aware of the fact that aluminium is a rather flexible material. It can be cut and bent fairly easily, even if it's too high and hard to grip to climb over. However the look of aluminium itself might be enough to deter burglars just looking for an easy target. It's also fire resistant.

Colorbond fencing

Colorbond fencing is a type of steel fencing that is very popular for many different reasons. It comes in a variety of designs and is an easily manageable material after it has been erected as it requires very little maintenance. For security purposes, this is probably the best option out of the three. As a colorbond fence is a steel fence, it will be very difficult for even the most committed burglar to get through. It's also hard to climb over due to a very flat surface and the fact that it's rather high. It's fire resistant and is probable to stop even the wildest of fires on its way towards your house.
